‘I am interested in the way colour, texture and patterns can be used to create a sense of movement on paper. The screen printing process works well to explore this.
My work focuses on creating the impression of movement, using colour and pattern that leads the eye to focus on the overall landscape and then closer into the finer detail. I find inspiration in the natural world, where different elements, processes and features combine to create an overall landscape, but also draw the eye to the diversity and ‘imperfections’ that exist. Like arrangements in music, the differing layers combine and overlap to create a piece that can be harmonious or create conflict.
My ideas for print originate from exploratory works using inks, watercolour, pen, gouache, layering colour and pattern. It is these experimental qualities I wanted to carry through into my printmaking.
I want the viewer to spend time with the image, to be drawn into its detail and complexities. My work focuses on creating the impression of movement in spaces that would otherwise be still.’
